Sport is not only good for the body, but also promotes mental balance. Especially for the cardiovascular system, regular exercise has a disease-preventing effect – because lack of exercise is one of the main risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD) and heart attacks. So it is always worthwhile to start exercising, even and especially if you already have cardiac diseases such as heart failure or have had a heart operation.
It is of central importance to adjust the training individually to the health status, the performance capacity and the need. Otherwise, there is a risk of dangerous overloading of the heart.
In our cardiological practice in Warschauer Straße, Dr. Rainer Ruf, a proven specialist through his training as a cardiologist and sports physician, is available to you. You can make use of his expertise and experience in the following sports medicine examinations, which we offer as self-pay services (IGeL) to those with statutory health insurance:
Package 1
100,- EUR
Package 2
130,- EUR
Package 3
180,- EUR
Package 4
220,- EUR
In addition, each examination package can be supplemented with an ultrasound examination of the heart for 60 euros.
Take advantage of this offer for a safe sporting activity, especially if you already have a cardiological condition. In this case, optimal medical advice requires more than knowledge of sports medicine; it also requires a deep and comprehensive understanding of the respective heart disease. As a cardiologist and sports physician, Dr Ruf combines both areas of knowledge and can therefore give you sound advice on the most suitable training for you, even in the case of severe heart disease and after heart surgery. Particularly in the case of pre-existing conditions, targeted control of the training makes sense and can support the health-promoting effect of the sporting activity and prevent training that is harmful to the heart.
We offer performance-oriented diagnostics for healthy athletes. Lactate performance diagnostics can be used to map performance very well. By determining the training areas, the training can be optimised and the overall performance can be improved through training advice. As a cardiologist, Dr. Ruf also offers the possibility to exclude relevant underlying diseases before the start of training in order to avoid negative health consequences through sporting activity and competitions. Corresponding certificates for fitness for competition are issued.
The primary purpose of performance diagnostics (lactate performance diagnostics, “lactate test”) is to determine the health status and performance of a person who is active in sports – regardless of whether they are a hobby or competitive athlete. Based on the results, the training of the respective sport can be planned individually and purposefully. Unplanned training can overstrain the cardiovascular system and thus become a health hazard.
Individual performance can be reliably determined by the lactic acid concentration in the blood during physical exertion (lactate analysis). The metabolic end product lactic acid comes into play above all when energy has to be provided anaerobically, i.e. without oxygen supply, with carbohydrates. For this, the cardiovascular system has to be stressed so that intensive muscle work is no longer possible.
As you can see, the lactate test is designed as a stage test. There are therefore defined performance levels in chronological order, for example an increase of 30 watts every 2 minutes. At the end of each stage, the lactate value is determined in the peripheral capillary blood, which is taken from the earlobe. The values provide information about metabolism and individual performance, not least about the individual anaerobic threshold, and thus support optimal, personally tailored training planning.
