As with a standard ECG, a long-term ECG uses sensors on the patient’s skin to record heart activity. The ECG device is carried by the patient for at least 18, usually 24, but sometimes also 72 hours. Due to its small size, this is possible without any restrictions on comfort, for example, when wearing a belt; only bathing and showering must be avoided during this time. The cardiac current curve is recorded on a memory card and then read out in the practice.
A long-term ECG provides insight into the behaviour of the heart in the patient’s everyday life, during various stresses as well as during sleep. The daily routine must therefore be recorded by the patient in order to be able to correlate activities and ECG.
From the cardiac current curve, cardiologists can read the following, among other things:

Vaccinations
Laboratory diagnostics
Long-term ECG
Long-term blood pressure measurement
