ECG

The electrocardiogram (ECG) is a recording of the heart’s current curve, i.e. the activities of the heart. Sensors stuck to the patient’s chest, arms and legs record the electrical impulses that the heart emits when it contracts. An ECG is usually performed in the resting position within a few minutes and is not associated with any pain or discomfort.

The ECG is one of the basic examinations of the heart and is often performed at the beginning of a diagnostic examination.

The cardiac current curve provides information about the heart rhythm and reveals any disturbances in the excitation process. An ECG can provide information about the following diseases and abnormalities:

Heart attack
Cardiac arrhythmias
Inflammatory changes, for example in the heart muscle
Enlargement of the heart
Circulatory disorders of the coronary vessels
(Side) effects of certain medicines
Changes in the blood minerals
